One of the most exciting moments for any author is seeing the cover of their new book. But believe me, finding the right one for your novel is not always easy. A good jacket should hint at the feel of the story and stand out on the shelves. It doesn’t necessarily need to be beautiful, but it helps.
My publisher Simon and Schuster had tried various approaches with the artwork for my next novel, ‘Messy Wonderful Us’. I’d liked quite a few of them, but none prompted the instant, positive reaction that I felt when I saw this one. I loved the colours, the lemons, the tiny, intricate flowers, the fonts . . . in short, it was perfect for a story of tangled family secrets, set in glorious, sun-drenched Italy.
The paperback release of Messy Wonderful Us will co-incide with Mother’s Day 2020 in the UK, but if you’ve got an e-reader then watch this space - the ebook will be available a little earlier, from November 2019. It’s been available to reviewers on Netgalley for the last couple of weeks and I’m happy to say that its average rating is a rather wonderful five stars.
